Bourbon Street of Nyack
opened its doors on June 19th 1999.
Years earlier, co-owner Michael Solicito
formed the idea while visiting New
Orleans for the first time. After
soaking up the food, fun, and atmosphere
that is New Orleans, as well as many
beers, Solicito’s vision began. He set
out to bring a little bit of New Orleans
back to New York. In the spring of
1999, Solicito finally got his
opportunity when Bourbon Street’s
current location became available. He
recruited co-workers and drinking
buddies John Novotny and Brian Moran as
partners. Together, the three worked to
build Bourbon
Street from the ground up.
The first thing the three wanted to
accomplish was to create an environment
reminiscent of New Orleans. They
dismantled a 19th century barn in
upstate New York and used the materials
to create the interior structure of
Bourbon Street. The restaurant is
adorned with hundreds of New Orleans
style mementos and keepsakes. “The place
kind of decorated itself. It seems like
everyone we know had a statue, beads, or
some other souvenir they wanted us to
display. And every time one of our
friends or patrons visit New Orleans
they always bring us something back,”
said Novotny.
Later on, eight televisions,
including an 80-inch projection screen
were added making
Bourbon Street the ideal
venue for watching any big game or
event. Perhaps the biggest change
occurred in April of 2003. Bourbon
Street received a face-lift with the
addition of French doors. The doors
provided patrons with open air dining
and added to the charm of
Bourbon Street
and Nyack’s Main Street alike.
If you have ever been to New Orleans
you know it’s all about the food. Head
Executive Chef Ben Lising and Executive
Chef Jose Magana signed on in March of
2002. There energy, talent, and passion
for replicating authentic Cajun dishes
have established Bourbon Street of
Nyack’s reputation as the area’s finest
Cajun restaurant. Nightly specials, live
entertainment, and an upbeat, friendly
staff make it one of the village’s most
frequented establishments.
While the appearance and some of the
faces have changed over the years the
owners’ goals have not. Co-owner Brian
Moran sums it up best, “We wanted to
create a fun, happy atmosphere where
people can come for good food and good
times with good friends. It sounds
simple, but it is what we have always
been about.” |
